The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will host a public forum on agricultural practices in shoreland areas from noon to 5 p.m., Monday, Feb. 9, in the Redwood Area Community Center in Redwood Falls.
Aimed at soliciting input from farmers and producers as well as agency officials and local government staff, the forum is part of the DNR’s effort to update shoreland management standards for the state’s lakes and rivers.
The forum will provide an overview of current provisions for agricultural practices in shoreland areas and a discussion of how to improve the rules. In addition to the DNR, representatives from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, the Minnesota Department of Agriculture, soil and water conservation districts, and local government will participate.
The 2007 Minnesota Legislature directed the DNR to undertake a new rulemaking process to update the state’s shoreland rules, which were last updated in 1989.
More information on the shoreland rules update is available online.
